Mig-15
Slashing through
the skies over the Yalu River separating North Korea from China, the
MIG-15 shocked the world when it was first encountered in combat.
Based on captured German wing designs (as was its adversary, the
F-86), the small, reliable, and nimble MiG was the first jet fighter
to challenge the superiority of US fighters. Even to this day, the
MiG-15 is an icon, a benchmark of technological progress, and a
superb jet warbird. In colloquial Russian, the word "MiG"
means something ethereal and fleeting, barely able to be seen, so
swiftly and silently does it disappear. Truly, the MiG is our flagship.

Red Star Aviation
has been working with MiG's since they were first available in the
West. From our first Chinese MiG-17s, thru our later Polish MiG-17s
and MiG-15s, and our Chinese JJ-5 as well as various MiG-21's of all
models, MiG's and Red Star Aviation are synonymous. We have
assembled, tested, flown, maintained, and operated MiG aircraft for
as long as we have been associated with Jet Warbirds. These days we
simply provide excellent information about them to operators, can
suggest the best sources for aircraft, parts, and service, and
provide training and flight tests in our award winning MiG-15UTI,
considered to be one of, if not the finest MiG restorations in the
world. Our aircraft was virtually built from new, by its old squadron
maintenance officer, who had maintained THIS MiG in Poland for over
20 years. A one-year, full-time restoration was accomplished, with
virtually every aircraft component exchanged with a brand new
component. It is no joke to say that when we were done, there was a
spare MiG in pieces on the hangar floor, in the form of all of the
used parts that had been removed. Can you tell that we are proud of
our "Red Beauty"?
We do provide
orientation flights, training flights, and full pilot conversion
courses in the MiG. She is also available for high speed industrial
chase and target operations, as well as for public displays, movie
productions, etc. Normally kept licensed under Experimental for
Exhibition purposes, she can be re-certified on request for Research
and Development, and in that case can be used for live drops of
wing-mounted payloads in excess of 500 pounds at speeds up to 0.82
Mach and altitudes in excess of 50,000 feet. Contact us for your
specific requirements.
Come and visit us
to let us show off our Red Beauty. Visit her for a cockpit tour, or
take a flight. We like nothing better than bringing her out on a nice
day to intercept Cessna's and to shock the good people of Newburg,
New York! |
